Description

UCLA's subscription to Lynda.com tutorials for UCLA students, staff and faculty through https://oit.ucla.edu/it-training will be ending . There are other resources listed on that page but for Los Angeles County and Los Angeles city residents there are some options for Lynda.com access detailed below.

Policies

There are two ways for residents of Los Angeles to get free access to Lynda.com: through the Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) or the Los Angeles County Library (COLA)

NOTE: Both library organizations have separate portals into Lynda.com, and will require your Library Card Number and PIN (the last 4 digits of the phone number you specified on your library card application) in order to authenticate.

The Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL)

If you already have a LAPL library card, there are two ways for you to access Lynda.com content: via a browser or the Lynda.commobile application.

1. Browser access:

2. Lynda.com mobile application access:

  • Open the Lynda.com mobile application for iOS or Android
  • Tap the “Organization” tab along the top of the application
  • Under “Web Portal”, enter lapl.org, and tap the “Log in” button
  • A mobile browser window will open at Lynda.com.  Enter your LAPL Library Card Number and PIN, and tap the “Log in” button
  • When presented with the “Open in Lynda.com” dialog box, tap “Open”

If you don't have a LAPL library card, there are two ways to obtain one:

1. Applying for e-Card Registration

Pro: Fast, easy and convenient way to access Lynda.com - submit online and you're done

Con: Does not allow you to check out physical library materials, such as books, CDs and DVDs

2. Applying for a Full-Access Library Card

Pros: Allows you to access and check-out all library content (books, CDs, and DVDs), as well as providing access to Lynda.com

Con: More involved - you must either pre-register online or download an application form and then visit a library branch in person to show your ID

For questions related to acquiring a LAPL library card, or accessing Lynda.com through the LAPL portal, please contact the library directly for assistance.
