Duties | Assist the Librarian for Maps and Cartographic Resources to maintain and organize flat historical and contemporary map collections, and atlases Assists in processing of cartographic materials Uses Windows systems, software, and web tools for file processing and sharing. Duties include also sending flat maps for cataloging, preservation, and deposit to SRLF, updating and creating new tabs in the library research guides, using UC Library catalog and other library systems, trace orders, and providing clerical and public assistance as needed. Communicating with Library staff and faculty related to the processing of maps requests, digitization and access, and requesting Library Catalog updates. Support the training and orientation of new cartographic student assistants and make suggestions for future projects. |
Required Skills | An interest in and/or passion for maps Ability to get to work reliably and on time. Ability to be present in the workplace during scheduled working hours. Ability to work with co-workers and supervisor cooperatively and as a team player. Ability to follow directions from supervisors. Careful attention to detail and ability to work independently when necessary. Ability to lift and move large map folders weighing up to 20lbs |
Preferred Skills | Proficiency in GIS software, such as ArcGIS Pro or QGIS Ability to search various databases and UC Library Search for cartographic resource information Knowledge of Library of Congress Classification (call numbers) Studying Geography or Library and Information Science Preference given to candidates who can commit to at least 1 academic year of employment. |
