Description

The Lux Lab, led by Emerging Technologies Librarian Doug Daniels, is a collection of emerging technology services offered by the UCLA Library, serving as a hub for innovative technologies at UCLA. The Lab features 3D printing, mapping and scanning, laser etching and cutting, and drone services. These services are available to all UCLA students, organizations, staff, and faculty for university-related work, often at little or no cost to patrons.

Services Offered

  • 3D Printing: High-quality 3D printing services for creating prototypes, models, and other objects.

  • Laser Etching and Cutting: Precision laser services for etching and cutting various materials.

  • Mapping and Scanning: Advanced tools for creating detailed maps and 3D scans.

  • Drone Services: Aerial data collection and imaging services using drones.

  • Potree: A service for visualizing and interacting with large point cloud datasets.

  • Target Audience: UCLA students, organizations, staff, and faculty engaging in university-related projects.

  • Other Resources: For personal projects, other on-campus 3D printing resources include the UCLA MakerSpaces in Boelter Hall and Olympic Hall, as well as the student organization 3D4E.

  • Due to limited resources, the Lux Lab cannot accept personal project proposals.
