Ozcan Research Group: Lens-free Telemedic Microscope - Winter 2017
Faculty Member(s) / Advisors
- Jeremie Richard, visiting postdoctoral researcher from Institut d'Optique in France
- Professor Aydogan Ozcan, Chancellor's Professor within the UCLA Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Challenges met
Jeremie reached out to the Lux Lab in the Winter of 2018 because Ozcan's in-lab 3D printer was backed up with print requests for other projects, and he was at a point in his research that he needed to adjust prototype designs quickly and efficiently. 3D printing is essential for his research, as it allows him to develop different extremely specific designs cheaply. The only other way he could have created his prototypes is ordering customized parts from online optics suppliers, which would make it creating a prototype be a multi-week process. He reached out to us, and was able to use our Form 2 resin printer multiple times throughout the year. He ended up being happier with the resin prints compared to the Ozcan Lab's printer, as that printer uses wax for it's support material and it can be extremely difficult to remove and does not create an aesthetically pleasing result. He was extremely happy with the results he got from the Form 2, and was able to complete his research in a timely manner thanks to our services.
