Lux Lab VR Job Description:


The Lux Lab Consultant primarily focuses on operating 3D Scanners, 3D printers, and the Laser etcher/cutter between the offices in Powell Library 331 and the YRL Lux Lab. The consultant's main day-to-day duties surround helping customers print their 3D print requests by orienting them in the proper manner and choosing the correct material and settings for their prints. In cases where 3D printing may not be the most ideal option, the consultant may consider other possibilities such as using the laser etcher or cutter to create the best product. The consultant must also operate the 3D scanner when patrons would like to scan an object for future a 3D print or for use other purposes. 


In addition to daily duties, the Lux Lab Consultant also maintains up-to-date documentation on emerging technologies and ideas that may benefit the library. In this role, the consultant must keep themselves up-to-date with how to operate certain softwares including Unity by completing the Unity training program. As the consultant learns these technologies, the consultant may help devise workshops and lesson plans for the Lux Lab's emerging technology services for the general public. As the consultant becomes fluent in operating these softwares, the consultant may begin to add to confluence pages the instructions on how to certain softwares including Unity, Tableau, Figma, etc. that may be useful for future consultants and other members of the library staff. 


  • Operate 3D Scanners 
  • Operate and Troubleshoot 3D printers
  • Operate Laser etcher/cutter 
  • Consult with patrons and make recommendations on the best path forward.
  • Complete Unity training program.
  • Maintain an up-to-date documentation on emerging technologies and ideas on how they may benefit the library
  • Help devise workshops and lesson plans for the Lux Lab's emerging technology services.
  • Create confluence pages for instructions on how to use different softwares such as Unity
