Duties

The Development Team works with a variety of donors to raise critical funds for the UCLA Library. The Development Student Assistant will have the unique opportunity to work at the UCLA Library, which consistently ranks among the top 10 research libraries in North America, and is the foundation of leading-edge research and student achievement at UCLA. The Student Assistant will learn about and engage in fundraising processes for a major academic library. This individual will gain valuable skills working with data, including pulling gift and acknowledgement reports and performing data entry. The student will also perform stewardship tasks such as writing letters, sending postcards, and making phone calls to thank donors for their support to the Library. The student will support the Development staff in the execution of donor events from set up to breakdown. Other duties include office administration support including filing and answering the phone, and running errands.

Required Skills
and Knowledge

Ability to work in a Windows PC environment and mid-level knowledge of the following software applications: Word, Excel, relational databases (i.e. Access), email, and Internet. Strong verbal and written communication, including knowledge of correct grammar and punctuation, are required. Sensitivity to protocols for working with highly confidential information is required. Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends for special events. Student must be available to work at the Library's annual major donor event, which will occur on the evening of spring break.

Preferred Skills
and Knowledge

An interest in non-profit organizations, ability to work independently, previous customer service skills, an interest in marketing or public relations, and the ability to meet established deadlines.

Comments

Must be available to work for 2 quarters or more. Able to work 10 hours per week. Must be available to work during special events during the evening. Note: Background check is required for this position. Continuing employment contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
