Duties | Entry-level position for the Young Research Library Access Services. Assist department with stack maintenance functions in support of shelving operations for the 3 million volume stack collection. Major duties will include checking-in returned books, organizing and shelving books, shelf straightening, and shifting collections. Other duties include assisting patrons in use of the library and in special projects as assigned. |
Required Skills | Knowledge of alphanumeric sorting. Strong interpersonal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and managers. Ability to provide concise instructions and directions, and ability to follow both written and verbal instructions. Physical ability to retrieve items from high and low shelves, ability to lift 35 pounds, and push loaded book carts. Ability to handle dusty books. Ability to communicate in English concisely and fluently. Ability to work with frequent interruptions. Ability to arrive to work on time meeting established work schedule. |
Preferred Skills | Ability to use a variety of databases such as UCLA Library Catalog, Google, and other information resources. Knowledge of software programs that are frequently used by UCLA students. |
Comments | Must be able to commit to work rest of FY 23/24 academic year (Winter and Spring Quarter, Summer optional). Must be available to work during 10th and finals week. Prefer to interview freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. |
