Duties
The Preservation Assistant will work under the supervision of the Project Manager, Audiovisual Survey (PMAVS) in collecting data for the completion of a comprehensive survey of audiovisual materials in UCLA’s Library Special Collections department. The Assistant will be responsible for capturing pertinent metadata about recordings (e.g. format, title, quantity, condition) in adherence to the Library’s metadata standards. The Assistant will also perform basic media conservation tasks as needed, such as rehousing or cleaning. The majority of this work will take place at UCLA’s Southern Regional Facility Library (SRLF), but may involve additional on-site travel to other UCLA library locations. Graduate students are preferred, but strong undergraduate candidates will be considered.

Ability to work independently while following established guidelines, procedures, and instructions.
Competency in working with spreadsheet software (Excel, Google Sheets, Airtable).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to lift, shelve, and shift library materials weighing up to 25 pounds, and to push a fully-loaded book truck.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
Basic familiarity with audiovisual formats and carriers (film, audio, video).
Basic familiarity with issues concerning long-term preservation of audiovisual materials.
Experience working with information management systems.
Currently enrolled graduate student.
Familiarity with project management software (e.g. Confluence/Jira).
