Duties | The Law Library is highly service-oriented and provides a wide range of innovative services to the Law School community. The Student Circulation and Stacks Supervisor assists with supervision of the library on Saturdays, Sundays and is the main supervisor of the library on Friday evenings. The incumbent works at the Circulation Desk: checking out library materials; issuing library cards; answering phones; assisting library patrons in the use of the library, its multi-format catalogs and collections; when appropriate refers users to reference librarians for detailed reference assistance; at times works independently at the Circulation Desk and may need to resolve non-routine problems within general guidelines. The Student Circulation and Stacks Supervisor assists with the daily shelving and maintenance of the Law Library’s open, closed and special collections stacks: helps prepare materials for shelving; assists with shelving and shelf-reading; helps organize and implement shelf shifts; performs book searches. The incumbent assists with special circulation and stacks projects. |
Required Skills | Ability to get to work reliably and on time and to be present in the workplace during normal working hours. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers, members of the Law School and general UCLA communities and the public. Ability to effectively communicate and perform duties in a calm and courteous manner even with frequent interruptions. Ability to follow established procedures and directions from supervisor. Ability to set priorities and work independently within the framework of established departmental and library policies and goals. Physical ability to lift, shelve and shift books and push loaded book carts. |
Preferred Skills | Library work experience is preferred. Knowledge of legal materials helpful. Skill in UC Search helpful. Preference given to candidates who can commit to at least 1 academic year of employment. |
