Duties | Under the supervision of the Head of Collection Services, the Processing Assistant will assist with the archival processing of the Wilkman Productions Archives Collection. Jon Wilkman was an author and award winning documentary filmmaker, whose titles include Moguls and Movie Stars: A History of Hollywood, Chicano Rock!: The Sounds of East Los Angeles, and Los Angeles History Project. The Processing Assistant will sort, research, and assess material from the Wilkman Productions Archives, which includes oral history video tapes, raw footage, master tapes, and transcriptions. Project tasks will include properly preparing video items and films for long term storage by affixing labels and barcodes and physically handling and winding film elements onto archival cores and rehoused into archival film cans. During this process, the Processing Assistant will obtain and document information into the Archive’s FileMaker Pro asset management database utilizing established archival protocols and best practices in the field of moving image archiving. Data found will be used to facilitate formal MARC cataloging and eventual online public access to collections information. |

Preferred Skills | *Familiarity with common film and video formats *Experience with data entry and database use, particularly FileMaker. *Basic handling and inspection skills for multiple types of physical media. *Knowledge of moving image and general cataloging practice and familiarity with descriptive standards. *Manual dexterity and ability to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 40 lbs. *Strong research and writing skills. |
