Using a ChromeBook

Files on ChromeBooks

Save files by:

  • Logging into g.ucla.edu, UCLA Box, or any other cloud storage to save your files online
  • Using the Files app to save or open files and then transferring those files to a USB drive

PLEASE NOTE: Chromebooks do not have much storage capacity, and CLICC Chromebooks wipe all local data when you exit your session or turn off the computer.

Avoid losing locally saved files by:

  • Not exiting your session, which occurs when a user turns off the ChromeBook
  • Closing the lid only will keep your settings and locally stored date, but will put the ChromeBook to sleep

PLEASE NOTE: If you close the lid to retain files and settings, make sure to keep the ChromeBook charged. If it turns off, all locally saved files will be wiped and settings reset.

Access files, apps, and more from the "Search Menu" by:

Pressing the "Search" key or clicking on the "Search" button in the bottom-left corner of the screen to access:

  • Local files
  • Applications installed on the computer
  • Chrome OS settings
