The Meeting Owl is a webcam, microphone, and speaker designed for conference tables.

It typically displays a panorama of the room at the top of its video feed, while using the main part of the video to focus on individuals that are speaking.

Meeting Owls may be a good option for a room where something better than a traditional webcam is needed, but a /wiki/spaces/LITKB/pages/39149880or built-in AV system is not necessary or affordable.

The 360° Lens allows for groups to fit in a video call better than usual webcams.

Meeting Owl App

Not necessary to host a meeting but definitely useful, especially for Service Desk!

Download the Meeting Owl App (On macOS, please use our Self Service portal)

Via the app you can:

  • Update and reset the device.

  • Change the Owl’s name.

  • Tweak various settings (WiFi, Camera, Audio)

Support

DIIT will update and deploy Owls for staff. DIIT has access to a nest portal for quick review of the software version for our 11 current owls.

Device updates should happen over a connection that is not UCLA_WEB (long story short, Meeting Owl updates do NOT work on that WiFi network).

Meeting Owl Portal

Unfortunately, after testing it out, the Meeting Owl Portal looks pretty inaccurate. It seems to never acknowledge that a Meeting Owl is online. It only recognizes the device as offline or updating. Which is not the most useful information!

Additionally, we cannot add folks without a library.ucla.edu email address to the portal, which means that FTVA folks cannot be added to the admin group.

Hoping that Owl Labs revamp their dashboard soon!
