Duties | Assist the Librarian and Library Assistant for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies in various collection development and management tasks as needed. Transliterate bibliographic information from Russian Cyrillic script into Roman script, per ALA-LC Romanization Table for Russian, for both print and digital materials. Collaborate in the creation and maintenance of subject research guides and tools. Perform bibliographic searching of books and serial titles in electronic databases. Execute other assigned tasks related to collection development and management with diligence and attention to detail. |
Required Skills | Proficiency in Slavic language(s) with a focus on reading comprehension in Russian and other relevant languages. Ability (after training) to accurately transliterate bibliographic information from Russian Cyrillic script into Roman script, per ALA-LC Romanization Table for Russian. High-level attention to detail and accuracy in computer data entry tasks. Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability, with a willingness to change projects when required. Capability to work independently after training, following established procedures and guidelines. Excellent oral communication skills to convey information clearly and diplomatically in a high-volume public service setting. Active listening skills to interpret requests accurately and identify solutions. Effective time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. |
Preferred Skills | Familiarity with academic libraries and their operations. Proficiency in using software applications such as Excel and MS Word for data entry and document processing. Reading knowledge of another Western language(s) - enhances the candidate's ability to navigate diverse collections and resources. Willingness to learn design principles and new technical skills. Familiarity with creative multimedia production applications and cloud-based tools. Working knowledge of search engines and skill in formulating effective search strategies. Capability to create and edit audio and video recordings, including screen recordings. |
