Duties | The Lux Lab Specialist (LLS) will assist the Emerging Technologies Librarian with the daily operation of Lux Lab services, including 3D printing, 3D scanning, laser etching/cutting, large-format printing, VR, and more. The LLS will handle incoming requests for services, which entails both triaging multiple requests as well as executing them in a timely manner. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in working with emerging technologies in a variety of applications. The Lux Lab offers its services to the entire campus, and the LLS can therefore expect to work on a wide variety of projects from all across campus. The LLS will learn to work with a large variety of hardware, including desktop 3D printers as well as professional-grade laser sintering machines; professional handheld structured light scanners; professional terrestrial LiDAR scanners; large-format printers; laser etcher and cutter; a variety of Virtual Reality headsets. The LLS will also be encouraged to pursue professional development opportunities, such as Unity certification. The LLS will also have the opportunity to shape the Lux Lab by making recommendations for new and existing services and hardware. |
