How to: Make Your LibGuide Show up in Bruin Learn

LTI (Learning Tool Interoperability) is the standard for integration between third-party tools and LMS's (Learning Management Systems) like Canvas (BruinLearn).

In this How To guide, we will be showing you the method of entering metadata into your LibGuide so that it will display within your BruinLearn course page.

  1. Navigate to your LibGuide.

  2. Click on the cog on the top right hand corner. In the drop down menu, click on "Guide Metadata".

3. A box will pop up. Click on "Custom Metadata". This is where you'll be able to enter the metadata that will link your LibGuide to your Canvas course page. You will be adding a record to the "Name" and the "Value"

4. In the Name Field, put "Canvas".

5. For the Value field, you'll be using your course name as it's listed in Canvas. Use the character after the dash (so, here, after "22W-") and before anything after the course number. So, for example, you would use INF STD-270 for "22W-INF STD-270-LEC-1".

If there is a letter in the course name, such as: 23F-LBR STD-191A-SEM-1, then the metadata you would use in Canvas would be: LBR STD-191A.

6. Once both fields have been entered, navigate to your Bruin Learn course page. Scroll down the left panel to "Library Resources" and ensure that your LibGuide is displaying.

*Your LibGuide will only display in your course page if it is listed as PUBLISHED in LibGuides.

  • Please note that the Library Resources tab has several resources listed. Your Research Guide will be among this list and, once clicked, will open within Canvas.

  • Additionally, please also note that your guide will automatically appear in any courses cross-listed with your course.

  • Lastly, you should be able to see, without logging into Bruin Learn, the Library Resources tab in Bruin Learn to check and see if your guide is displaying.

  • If you have any issues, however, submit a Jira ticket so that a member of the LibApps team can check to see if your guide is showing up for you.

Additional examples for:
A guide listed for both Chemistry and Biological Chemistry.
A guide listed for both Art and Art History.
A guide listed for Disability Studies.

For assistance with your Research Guide, please submit a Jira ticket to the LibApps team. Thank you!
