Working in the UCLA Library Preservation Studios, the Audiovisual Preservation Assistant will assist with a variety of duties in the Audiovisual Preservation Studio within the Library’s Preservation unit. Under close supervision of Audiovisual Preservation staff, the AV assistant will assist in creating and embedding metadata, generating checksums and performing quality assurance of digitized audiovisual files; creating photographic documentation of original media carriers; reviewing collection records for an audiovisual survey; and assisting with other related duties as necessary.
The Head of Audiovisual Preservation, Yasmin Dessem, schedules work, reviews quality and efficiency of work, and provides for training of the incumbent. Supervision is on site, but daily work is self-directed.

Familiarity with metadata standards for audiovisual collections.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
Working familiarity with command-line-interface, bash scripting, Python, and open source tools like ExifTools and FFMPEG.
Ability to use imaging equipment such as a scanner and digital camera.
Skill in managing digital files and keeping work organized.
Familiarity with timeline-based video editing and digital audio workstation software such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition.
Working familiarity with operating legacy analog audiovisual playback equipment.
