Working under the supervision of the Metadata Creation Project Coordinator (MCPC), the Metadata Services Student assistant performs a variety of tasks in support of the UCLA Cataloging & Metadata Center mission. Specifically, the incumbent edits records describing digital resources (e.g. photographs) in order to add information or correct existing information, generally in the Dublin Core format or on structured spreadsheets, and according to established metadata standards. Create monthly statistical report to track completed records. The incumbent assists the MCPC with project management and tracking workflow for digital resources, including assistance in maintaining the Section's documentation.
Required Skills and Knowledge
Ability to spell and type accurately, with strong attention to detail and maintaining strict quality standards. Ability to identify and analyze problems related to job tasks. Experience using internet browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Chrome. Ability to read and write in English to communicate effectively. Ability to organize and prioritize work tasks.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
Knowledge of the Dublin Core/and or Marc 21 metadata formats. Experience searching and editing in the OCLC and Voyager databases.
