Overview

If a Chromebook user has a UCLAID and wishes to use eduroam, a secure network, to access the Internet, they will need to configure the connection.

Info

Eduroam is a secure network, unlike UCLA_WEB, and students, staff, and faculty should use this network over other campus wireless networks whenever possible. Unfortunately, our Chromebooks currently cannot force eduroam use.

As an authenticated network, eduroam requires users to log in with UCLAID and password. This prevents the Chromebooks from anticipating a user’s credentials before they use it.

Therefore, although eduroam is the preferred campus network for all wireless Internet activity, we do not force research Chromebook users to use this network over UCLA_WEB.

Step-by-step guide

Configure eduroam connection

title1. Click on Status Area

In the bottom right-hand corner of the Chrome OS desktop, click the Status Area where it shows the time, Wi-Fi strength, power, and User.

title2. Click on Not connected (or name of current WiFi network)

Click where it says “Not connected” beneath the WiFi icon.

If you are connected to another network, the name of that network will be displayed here instead.

Select “eduroam” from the list of visible WiFi networks.

title4. Set EAP method to PEAP

In the configuration menu that appears, set the field “EAP method” to PEAP.

title4. Input UCLAID and password, and Connect

Scroll down the configuration menu.

In the Identity field, type your UCLA ID username (with @ucla.edu).

In the Password field, type your UCLA ID password.

Click Connect.
